Mind Wellbeing Counselling

Engaging in therapy is an important step towards healing, growth, and lasting resilience. At Mind Wellbeing Counselling, we are committed to ensuring that your experience is safe, supportive, and tailored to meet your unique needs. The therapeutic journey is one of collaboration, respect, and empowerment, grounded in the highest standards of clinical care.

Below, you will find an overview of what you can expect as we begin working together.

First Consultation Overview

Your therapeutic journey begins with an initial consultation, during which we will explore the concerns that have brought you to therapy. This first meeting provides an opportunity to discuss your immediate difficulties, review your personal and clinical background, and identify the areas in which you seek support.

The first consultation is as much an opportunity for you to get to know me and the therapeutic process, as it is for me to understand your needs and goals. It is a collaborative and welcoming space where questions are encouraged, and where we jointly determine whether we are a good fit to work together.

Setting Goals Together

Effective therapy is guided by clear, meaningful goals. After the initial consultation, we will work together to establish goals that are both realistic and personally significant. These goals may relate to emotional healing, behavioural changes, improved relationships, or enhanced resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

Goal setting is a dynamic process: your aspirations may evolve as therapy progresses, and we will revisit and refine your objectives as needed. This ensures that therapy remains relevant, responsive, and aligned with your individual journey.

Therapeutic Methods We Use

At Mind Wellbeing Counselling, therapy is integrative, drawing upon a range of evidence-based approaches, each selected according to your specific needs.

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR): A structured, scientifically validated approach to processing traumatic memories and reducing the distress associated with them.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): A modern cognitive behavioural approach that promotes psychological flexibility, resilience, and value-driven living.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): A practical, skills-based intervention aimed at identifying and modifying unhelpful patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour.

These methodologies are not applied rigidly, but rather woven together thoughtfully to offer a highly personalised therapeutic experience.

Client Involvement and Collaboration

Therapy is most effective when it is collaborative. You are an active participant in your own therapeutic journey, not a passive recipient. At Mind Wellbeing Counselling, your insights, preferences, and feedback are valued and sought throughout the process.

We will work together to develop strategies, reflect on progress, and adapt interventions as necessary. I will support you in exploring your experiences with openness and care, always respecting your pace and readiness for change. Your autonomy, self-determination, and voice are at the centre of every session.

Session Format and Frequency

Typically, therapy sessions are held once per week, with each session lasting approximately fifty minutes. However, the frequency and duration of sessions are flexible and will be determined collaboratively based on your individual needs, preferences, and therapeutic goals.

Some clients benefit from more intensive support over shorter periods, while others may prefer a more gradual pace of engagement. We will continually review and adjust the structure of your therapy to ensure it best supports your growth and wellbeing.

Sessions are available in-person, as well as via secure video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, or by telephone, offering accessibility and flexibility to suit your circumstances.

Confidentiality and Consent

Confidentiality is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. Everything discussed within the sessions is treated with the strictest confidence, in accordance with professional ethical standards and legal requirements.

There are limited exceptions to confidentiality, such as when there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or where disclosure is required by law. These boundaries will be discussed clearly during your initial consultation, ensuring you are fully informed and comfortable.

Informed consent is a cornerstone of ethical practice. You have the right to understand the nature of the therapy, to ask questions at any stage, and to withdraw from therapy if you so choose.

At Mind Wellbeing Counselling, you are respected not only as a client, but as an equal partner in the therapeutic journey — one in which your safety, trust, and empowerment are paramount.
